Today I am heartbroken by the act of nature. This weekend a hurricane took its journey through southern states, up into areas that were not on the coastline. Many  are still without power. Schools and businesses closed. Families still trying to recover from the storm. Some areas were not directly affected by the hurricane but the storms that were birth from it. Some got rain, others got wind and then some got both.

There are areas that have been totally wiped out due to the rain and the forceful winds that seem to accompany, if not a part of the hurricane.

Pictures have been shared on the internet via news channels and social media. Pictures of towns and communities that are flooded. One area over thousands of citizens missing, unaccounted for. Some known deaths. I have lived through many hurricanes, numerous thunderstorms and tropical weather. I recall my first hurricane, Hurricane David, in the 70s. There were others after him, Floyd and Hugo plus more.  Yet I don't ever remember such a catastrophic event that has taken a whole community out. Roads flooded, power lines down, trees fallen but house underwater with only the roof visible........I don't recall. Maybe it's similar to what took place in New Orleans. A family member was taken in a helicopter to see her home in New Orleans because it was unreachable do to the hurricane that destroy many parts of New Orleans. Puerto Rico was hit hard, without lights for a long time due to a hurricane.

As we pray for everyone that is enduring hardship and setbacks because of the recent hurricane, lets not forget that storms comes in many ways. Some people were in the storm of life before hurricane started stirring in the ocean. They felt helpless in the midst of whatever they were facing....eviction, repossession, legal battles, family issues, divorce, sexual assault, etc. Many will testify that a hurricane hit their home before the rain and wind came. Please keep those people lifted up in prayer. If you know someone who is battling life, give them encouragement. If you know someone who was affected by the hurricane, reach out to see if you can help with a need.  It's the little things that makes a big difference.

Simple acts of kindness save lives.
